The Department of Justice (DOJ) recently announced that it will award 137 grants to 85 American Indian and Alaska Native communities, for a total of $73 million, to improve public safety and serve crime victims, funds which are designed to help enhance tribal justice systems and strengthen law enforcement, improve the handling of child abuse cases, combat domestic violence and support tribal youth programs. Additionally, the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), a component of the DOJ’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP), recently announced it has awarded nearly $104 million over 140 awards to fund culturally-appropriate victims services in tribal communities
